Top 5 Sightseeing Attractions in New York City

July 30, 2017

There's no place like New York City! Of all the great cities that I've been living in, the Big Apple -New York City is my favorite! I've been living in the States for 4 years, but in New York City only for a year for my MS degree program in Columbia University. I don't know why, but I really love staying in NYC. Maybe that there's an energy to this big city that isn't captured in anywhere else in the world. If you were to ask me what I missed the most there in the city, it would be everything! The people, the food, the scenery, the weather, the building, and the nightlife are those that I missed terribly!

Let's see what are the top FIVE sightseeing places in New York City that I love:

1. Time Square, New York
Located at 42th- 47 Street, from Broadway to Seventh Avenue. Crowded with fellow tourists and locals 24/7, flushing with neon lights and giant digital billboards. Costumed characters as well as street musicians and artists. Time Square is always so energetic, bright, and unforgettable. Walk up to the red steps where you can get a great view of the area. If you manage to come here during New Year Eve, then you wouldn't want to miss the ball drop!
*P/S: These costumed characters are unlicensed and mostly not friendly, you are not obligated to pay or tips them. Having said that, you may want to keep a distance away unless you have money to tip them.

2. Empire State Building
A 102-story skyscraper located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan on Fifth Avenue between West 33rd and 34th Street. The Empire State Building is not just about the view, but one of the most famous landmarks in the world. Immerse yourself in the beautiful, world-famous New York's skyline from the breathtaking observatory deck on 86th and 102nd floor. Experience the unforgettable 360 degree views of New York City and beyond. It opens 365 days from 8am - 2am.
*P/S: If you don't want to stuck in the waiting line, it is recommended to visit Empire State Building early in the morning around 8am, in the midafternoon around 3pm or after 11pm.

3. Central Park
As its name suggest, it is located in the middle of Manhattan. It is the largest park in Manhattan that stretches 843 acres and holds up to 35 million visitors annually. It is the most visited park in the United States and most filmed location in the world with its scenic backdrop. Some highlights of the park include the Central Park Zoo (south end), Bethesda Fountain (mid-park), Strawberry Fields/ Imagine Mosaic (mid-park), the Great Lawn (mid-park) and the Mall and Literary Walk (south end).
*P/S: Park hours are from 6am - 1am daily.

4. Statue of Liberty
Perhaps the most typical and familiar landmark of New York City. Located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor in New York City, it can only accessible by boat/ferry. The copper statue, weights 62,000 pounds, is a gift from people of France dedicated to the people of United States on October 28, 1886.
*P/S: If you would like to get to the crown, you need a special ticket and get it at least two months in advance as they sell out fast. You can't purchase crown (or pedestal) tickets on Liberty Island itself.

5. Brooklyn Bridge
Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest bridges in the United States. Stretching across the East River, the bridge is a suspension bridge that connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Being featured in many movies and on television shows, it is one of the most recognizable parts of the New York City skyline. You might want stroll across the elevated pedestrian walkway along the bridge to experience the New Yorker feeling.
